This is an interior of
machiya at Naramachi in Nara City in Kansai region. Went there on a rainy day, so it was a good thing that I could stop by for hours, enjoying the beauty of Japanese architecture by the essence,
simplicity.

The light and simplicity.

The kitchen, leading to storage behind of the house.

The unique window on the kitchen part of the house, it has three layers of shutters, each with different functions. One, the wooden layer to entirely close the indoor from outdoors, the wooden slits layer to release the smoke from the kitchen, and the
shoji layer, to let the light comes in.

Another idea of creating compact space, stairs with drawer beneath! Love it, a lot!
